Meeting with Secretary of Transport 1st July 2013

On Monday 1st July 2013 a small number of people from the WLD & KB Action Groups along with a member of SCC & LDC plus Michael Fabricant visited the Department of Transport in London for a meeting with SoT Mr Patrick Mcloughlin & HS2 staff.

The meeting was set up by Mr Fabricant for the Action Groups to put over to the Secretary of Transport, mitigation proposals relating to the "Y" junction at Streehay & Fradley Business Park.
The mitigation proposals consisted of a presentation showing the devastation of  Height, Noise, Vibration & Dust the existing proposals would have on the whole of the communities in the Lichfield & surrounding areas.
It also showed an alternate (better) proposal which was to lower the Phase1 route to go under the WCML , South Staffs Line & A38 in "Box Tunnels".
This would result in the lines for Phase1 & Phase2 being lower at the "Y" junction & possibly for a section of the route back towards Whittington Heath, Whittington & Packington.
The feedback from the SoT & HS2 staff was mainly positive in that they would look at our proposals & consider them in conjunction with other factors such as flood plains, spoilage & cost.
On the whole the meeting was positive with good interaction with all present.
It is now a waiting game to see if the proposals are acted upon in any way.
Keeping fingers crossed for a positive outcome.
